A visiting carer, also known as a companion carer, is a professional carer who provides support and assistance to individuals in their own homes. Unlike live-in carers who reside with the client, visiting carers provide scheduled visits at specified times to deliver care and companionship.
Visiting carers offer a range of services depending on the needs of the individual. This may include assistance with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and medication reminders. They can also provide companionship and emotional support, engage in social activities, accompany clients to appointments or outings and help with light household tasks.
The primary goal of a visiting carer is to ensure the well-being and safety of the individual while promoting their independence and quality of life. They play a vital role in helping clients maintain their routines, remain connected to their communities, and enhance their overall well-being.
For this role, you do not need to be an experienced carer or have formal qualifications. Together, we will guide and support you to develop your skills and confidence in providing high-quality care for clients with a variety of needs, from companionship to complex care.
To be considered for the role, you might have professional experience as a care assistant, care worker, or as a support worker in a residential or domiciliary care setting. Or, perhaps you have personal experience providing support care to a loved one or a friend. ABOUT THE ROLE
What does a visiting carer do?
Getting the little things right is fundamental in everything we do. As a care professional working for Ashridge Home Care, you will provide high-quality one-to-one care and companionship at a time when a person needs it most.
As a care professional, you will:
- Provide person-centred bespoke care to clients
- Support clients for a minimum of one hour per visit to allow them to live safely in their own homes
- Be a companion to your client and accompany them on outings if required
- Undertake induction training and continuing professional development
- Work with your colleagues and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to client care
- Support with administration of medication
- Help clients with all aspects of personal care whilst maintaining dignity and promoting the client’s independence
- Assist clients to prepare and cook their preferred meals
- Provide housekeeping support as required

What skills are required to be a visiting carer?
We feel it is important to reward and support our team, and we have developed a friendly and nurturing working environment. You will have a dedicated care manager and the office team are always there at the end of the phone or when you visit the office. We want to help you progress in your role if you wish to and can support you to undertake higher learning and NVQs.
