Dementia Café Volunteers Receive Vital Training

In a significant leap toward promoting home care as a vital service to people living with dementia, we recently hosted a training session led by dementia expert and friend of Ashridge, Sally Blackden. This empowering event centred around a group of devoted volunteers in Speen, the vibrant heart of our monthly Dementia Café—an initiative proudly pioneered by Ashridge Home Care. As we underscore the pivotal role volunteers play in this initiative, we emphasise the importance of community-driven support for individuals grappling with dementia and their caregivers, paid or unpaid.

Our Dementia Café stands out as a unique resource that relies on the commitment of our volunteers. The café, which takes place every third Thursday of the month, serves as a vital hub offering emotional and practical assistance to those navigating the complex landscape of dementia. The success of this initiative hinges on the dedication of our volunteers, we are so grateful to them.

Sally Blackden, a respected trainer, shared a wealth of expertise with our volunteers, shedding light on the challenges and joys of supporting individuals with dementia. Her insights not only enriched our volunteers but also reignited their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by dementia.

Why is our Dementia Café so important?

The paramount importance of community involvement in dementia care cannot be overstated. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Dementia Café, creating a supportive space where individuals facing dementia can find understanding and a sense of belonging.

The whole team at Ashridge Home Care express our heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and to Sally, the impact that community work can have on the lives of those touched by dementia is significant. Encouraging communities to prioritise empathy, understanding, and support, our monthly Dementia Café exemplifies the power of comprehensive home care for all. Join us every third Thursday as we build communities that promote the well-being of individuals and families impacted by dementia.

Our Dementia Café is held at Speen Chapel, Speen every third Thursday of the month.  All welcome.
