Supporting our community: Ashridge Home Care Memory Cafe Opens at Chilterns Neuro Centre
At Ashridge Home Care, we’re always searching for ways to support our community and create new connections. Read on to discover how the launch of our latest memory café in Halton will help to enrich the lives of families living with or supporting someone with dementia, in Halton and beyond:
Our memory cafe in Chiltern Neuro Centre
Launching this November, our latest memory cafe will be open to all who need it at the Chilterns Neuro Centre in Halton. Our Memory Cafés are a free, welcoming space designed specifically for families and carers living with or supporting a loved one who’s experiencing memory loss or who has been diagnosed with dementia.
The launch of the newest memory café follows the success of cafés in Speen and Beaconsfield. Our Speen café was even recently honoured with a Proud of Bucks Award for its outstanding volunteer group: a testament to our care team’s commitment to community and service.
We first partnered with Chiltern’s Neuro Centre in 2023 to deliver joint workshops, advice, and guidance for individuals and their families living with complex neurological conditions, such as dementia, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). With the launch of the cafe, our team will be able to offer even more support to people in our community, providing a welcoming space where families can connect and share experiences.
Why is local dementia support important?
Dementia can be an isolating and scary experience for both those diagnosed and their families. That’s why it’s so important for families to have access to local support dementia care networks where they can connect with other people in similar situations, as well as find practical advice and guidance.
“Caring for someone with memory loss or dementia can be highly isolating. Our cafés offer a safe, friendly environment where individuals can connect, share experiences, and access valuable information and support.” – Trudi Scrivener. Founder, Ashridge Home Care
Who hosts our Memory Cafés?
Our Memory Cafés are hosted by a dedicated team of trained volunteers and friendly staff from Ashridge, who create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone who attends. When you come along to our cafés, you’ll be invited to relax and enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, cakes, and biscuits while connecting with others in a supportive space. Each session features a variety of enjoyable and inclusive activities, such as spring bulb planting, puzzles, quizzes, and singing, all designed to create conversation and get creative juices flowing.
Whether you visit alone or with a loved one, there’s always something to take part in and someone to share it with.
“We’re thrilled to host this new Memory Café at our Centre and provide a welcoming space where people living with dementia, their families and carers can connect, share experiences and find understanding and support. Similar to MS, Parkinson’s and strokes, living with conditions like dementia can be deeply challenging, but no one should face those challenges alone. We hope the Memory Café creates a community that fosters friendship, dignity and hope.” – Stella Kubale, Deputy CEO at the Chilterns Neuro Centre
