Companionship home care to prevent loneliness and social isolation among older people

Preventing loneliness and social isolation among older people

This year’s Loneliness Awareness Week campaign takes place from Monday 13th June – Friday 17th June 2022.

Created and hosted by Marmalade Trust, this very important annual campaign raises awareness of loneliness across the UK (and beyond!) and gets people talking about it.

For a growing number of people, particularly those in later life and self isolation, loneliness can define their lives and have a significant impact on their wellbeing.

Combatting loneliness is a cause close to our heart and one that Ashridge Home Care continues to support. Anyone can be lonely but it is important to remember you are not alone.

No matter what your age, being loved and cared for is important to all of us.

Christopher B (Friend of Ashridge Client), shares a great testimonial illustrating the benefits of having a companion at home.

“My wife and I have arranged PA/companionship visits by Ashridge for an elderly neighbour, working closely with her son who lives abroad.”

“At every point in the process – assessment of care needs, advice on options, drawing up the care plan, selecting the appropriate PA/companion, reviewing the implementation  of the plan – we have found Ashridge totally professional, caring and easy to work with. We find them totally reliable and we (and our friend’s son) feel very reassured that we can rely on a care provider with such experience and expertise.”

“In approaching her task, the Ashridge Companion has shown not only kindness and consideration but also considerable resilience and imagination in building a relationship with our friend and showing in what ways she can help her.”

“Ashridge are very well networked into other support mechanisms and have been instrumental in getting our friend into a local Day Centre once a week and arranging a team of neighbours to provide transport. Highly recommended.”

98% of home care clients say the care and support they receive helps them have a better quality of life. Having a service that enables our loved ones to stay in their own home as they age really is an incredible gift.

Companionship home care is the perfect care solution for many older people because it means the person receiving care can remain in their own home, the place that they love the most. A place that holds years of memories, that is familiar and that brings them happiness and comfort.

Having a dedicated carer solely focused on your relative’s needs provides added flexibility, as the carer works around their routine and preferences.  A carer providing one to one care is proven to improve health and wellbeing for people living at home,  compared to those living in a care home.

If you think you, or a family member could benefit from companionship home care , take a look into it today, contact one of our care specialists for a free consultation . You will find the financial side compares favourably to residential care homes with the added peace of mind that your loved one is cared for in their own home.

Loneliness can affect us all. Please reach out to the people in your life who might be isolated and make them smile – have a cup of tea with your elderly neighbour, give your nan a ring, or text a friend who you haven’t seen out for a while.
